An Ogden man was sentenced Thursday to serve from five years to life in prison for beating a Roy man to death with a baseball bat.

Sergio Prado, 28, was sentenced on the first-degree felony murder charge by 2nd District Judge Michael Lyon. Prado had been charged with capital murder for the April 1993 death of Carey M. Seiber, but he entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge last month following plea negotiations. The attack occurred when the 39-year-old victim wandered into an Ogden apartment where Prado was staying. Prado thought Seiber was in the apartment to commit a burglary, so he attacked the man with a baseball bat.

Seiber fled the apartment, and Prado chased him down and continued hitting him with the bat. The victim was found bleeding on the sidewalk by a passerby and was taken to a local hospital. He died of head injuries the next day.
