Ricky Davis rushed for 153 yards and Marvin Goodwin made a dramatic, game-saving interception in the final minute Saturday to lead No. 16 UCLA to a 27-21 victory over 22nd-ranked Southern Cal and put the Bruins in the Rose Bowl for the first time in eight years.

UCLA (8-3) finished Pacific-10 play with a 6-2 record, the same as USC. But the Bruins get the Rose Bowl berth because of the win over the Trojans (7-5) and an earlier victory over Arizona.The Bruins will meet the Big Ten representative, either Wisconsin or Ohio State, in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.

UCLA led 17-0 at halftime, but the Trojans rallied behind two TD passes by Rob Johnson in the second half. Then Johnson almost pulled it out at the end.

Beginning at the USC 19 with 2:30 to play, Johnson completed passes of 33 yards to Johnnie Morton to the UCLA 46, then 43 yards to Ken Grace at the UCLA 3.

The Bruins held Shawn Walters to just 1 yard on two carries and then, on third down, Johnson tried to hit Tyler Cashman in the end zone. But Goodwin came down with the ball with 50 seconds left.

Bjorn Merten had boosted UCLA's lead to six points with his second field goal of the game, a 20-yarder with 6:18 remaining.

The victory ended a long run of frustration for UCLA in the series against USC when game had Rose Bowl implications. The Trojans had beaten the Bruins 10 in a row when the teams went into the final game with Rose Bowl hopes.

No. 2 Florida St. 62, N.C. State St. 3

At Tallahassee, Fla., Charlie Ward threw four touchdown passes and ran for another score in his final home game. The Heisman Trophy favorite has completed 69 percent of his passes this season for 2,586 yards and 23 touchdowns with just two interceptions. The Seminoles close their season next week at Florida.

No. 9 W. Virginia 17, No. 4 Miami 14

The Mountaineers (10-0) put themselves squarely in the national championship picture. Robert Walker scored on a 19-yard sweep with 6:08 left for the winning points, and West Virginia forced Miami (8-2) to punt before running out the clock.

"We're just as deserving as anyone else," coach Don Nehlen said. "I don't know who that anyone else is, but I know one thing - our guys have now won 10 in a row."

Michigan 28, No. 5 Ohio St. 0

At Ann Arbor, Mich., the Wolverines (7-4, 5-3 Big Ten) took control of the Rose Bowl bid out of Ohio State's hands, scoring early and dominating on both sides of the ball. The Buckeyes (9-1-1, 6-1-1 Big Ten) needed either a win or a tie to clinch their first trip to Pasadena since the 1984 season. Instead, their 16-game unbeaten streak ended and they were blanked for the first time in 11 years.

No. 6 Auburn 22, No. 11 Alabama 14

At Auburn, Ala., the Tigers beat the Crimson Tide (8-2-1) for the first time since 1989 by coming back from a 14-5 third-quarter deficit. Backup quarterback Patrick Nix came into the game on a fourth-and-15 at the Crimson Tide 35 and threw a touchdown pass to Frank Sanders on his first play to begin the comeback.

No. 7 Tennessee 48, Kentucky 0

At Lexington, Ky., the Volunteers (8-1-1, 5-1-1 SEC) held the Wildcats (6-5, 4-4) to 244 yards. Charlie Garner rushed for 186 and Cory Fleming caught two touchdown passes. Tennessee has outscored its last three opponents 148-13.

No. 8 Florida 52, Vanderbilt 0

At Gainesville, Fla., the Gators (9-1, 7-1) earned a berth in the SEC championship game by playing almost flawlessly in the final tuneup for Florida State. "I think anyone would give us a chance (to beat Florida State) because we are playing here in the Swamp," coach Steve Spurrier said.

No. 10 Texas A&M 59, TCU 3

At Fort Worth, Texas., the Aggies (9-1, 6-0) earned at least a tie for the Southwest Conference title by winning their 21st straight conference game. Greg Hill ran 94 yards for one of his two touchdowns and Corey Pullig passed for two scores.

No. 12 Wisconsin 35, Illinois 10

At Champaign, Ill., the Badgers (8-1-1) took the field after learning that Ohio State had lost and played like they wanted to go to Pasadena. First, though, they must go to Tokyo in two weeks and beat Michigan State. "We're not going to let this one slip away," promised quarterback Darrell Bevell.

No. 14 Penn St. 43, Northwestern 21

At Evanston, Ill., Mike Archie rushed for a career-high 173 yards and two touchdowns and Kerry Collins passed for 278 yards for the Nittany Lions (8-2, 5-2 Big Ten). Penn State scored on five of six possessions to turn a 14-13 deficit into a 43-14 lead.

No. 18 Colorado 21, Iowa St. 16

At Ames, Iowa, A 49-yard touchdown pass from halfback Lamont Warren to Charles Johnson in the fourth quarter rallied the Buffaloes (7-3-1), who finished second in the Big Eight at 5-1-1 and secured a coalition bowl bid. The Cyclones (3-8, 2-5) scored 14 points in the fourth quarter.

No. 20 Kansas St. 21, Okla. St. 17

At Stillwater, Okla., Chad May directed an 80-yard drive in the final minute with no timeouts left and capped it with a 2-yard TD pass to Brad Seib. The Wildcats are 8-2-1, 4-2-1 in the Big Eight. Oklahoma State is 3-8 and 0-7.

No. 21 Indiana 24, Purdue 17

At Bloomington, Ind., Shane Thomas scored on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter after Purdue rallied from a 17-7 deficit to tie the game. Purdue (1-10, 0-8 Big Ten) finished its worst season in 86 years. Indiana (8-3, 5-3) guaranteed itself a bowl bid.

No. 25 Va. Tech 20, No. 23 Virg. 17

At Charlottesville, Va., Virginia Tech (8-3) put the finishing touches on another late-season collapse by Virginia (7-4), which for the second consecutive year started 5-0 before losing four of six to end the regular season. The Hokies are headed to the Independance Bowl.

No. 24 Clemson 16, S. Carolina 13

At Columbia, S.C., replacement quarterback Dexter McCleon directed a Clemson (8-3) comeback from a 13-3 halftime deficit. Nelson Welch's third field goal, a 31-yarder with 11:53 remaining, gave Clemson the game-winning points.
