Newcomer Jason Simon's goal with 25 seconds remaining in the second period gave the Salt Lake Golden Eagles a 5-4 lead over Cleveland, which held up through the final 20 minutes, and for the first time on the year, the Eagles have a winning streak.

Eagle coach Dave Farrish said the team has a long way to go but the two straight wins (The Eagles also beat Cleveland in a shootout on Friday) feel great. "Wow, we got four points this weekend and its a big jump," he said. The Lumberjacks and Eagles traded jabs blow-for-blow through the first and second periods. Each time the Eagles would score, the 'Jacks would respond, until Simon's game winner to close out the second period.

For only the fourth time in the Eagles' 20 games, they were able to tally the initial score of the game. Barely one minute into the game, Derek Armstrong was able to slap a shot that had bounced high off the glass into the Cleveland net. The shot looked as if it could have been called high-sticking, but the referee didn't think so, so Salt Lake had the early 1-0 lead.

Cleveland's Ladislav Karabin evened the score six minutes later, getting Eagle goalie Jamie McLennan to commit, and then flipping the puck past him. But Salt Lake closed out the first period scoring at the 14:16 mark with Zigmund Palffy getting his 11th goal of the season.

The second period mirrored a tennis match. Three times Cleveland tied the game and three times the Eagles regained a one-goal lead. Dave Michayluk scored twice for the 'Jacks but the Eagles responded to the pressure with goals by Dave Chyzowski, Simon and the only power-play goal of the night by Dave MacIntyre.

"It's a game of confidence. Players perform much better under situations when they have confidence and it can only grow. The more you win, the more confidence you have, and it's kind of a snowball effect, said Farrish.
