Friday, Dec. 3, is the deadline for entries in the Utah Arts Festival's fifth annual Composer Commission competition.

Each year the festival commissions an 8-to-12-minute symphonic piece from a Utah-based composer to be premiered by the Utah Symphony at the following year's festival. The winner will receive $5,000, which is also expected to cover costs of scores and parts.Candidates are invited to submit a one-page biography, three copies of a score that represents their work and, if possible, a cassette tape. Only works completed after 1989 will be considered. For information call 322-2428.
