West High School is No. 1. Our community knows it, the students know it, the football team knows it. They have won 23 straight games in football. I don't think anyone has ever done that in this state.
But that's not the only thing that makes West a winner. The football team has had to endure much. There has been a lot of negative publicity. They have had many injuries. Some of the players have suffered personal loss.Coach Don Holtry has done a magnificent job. He has helped to keep the team's spirit high and kept them positive. He should be commended for doing a fine job in such a negative situation.
