Austin Leron Johnsen died Friday afternoon, November 19, 1993, of causes associated with age.

Born June 13, 1896, the year that this state joined the Union, his 97 years were spent in Utah.He was the last remaining child of Chrest C. and Hansine Hansen Johnsen, having been preceded in death by Clarence, Norman, Henry, Vernon, Melvin, Amanda, Florence, and Myrtle, his revered brothers and sisters.

Austin married Lettie Victoria Campbell in 1924 and became a successful farmer in the Bear River Valley. They resided in Bear River City, where Austin followed a family tradition of community, cultural and religious leadership.

After the death of his beloved Victoria in 1971, Austin's love of music and dancing drew him to the Ogden area, where he met and married Dean Cherrington March 24, 1974. They became loving companions until his passing. Having their marriage solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 21, 1924, highlighted the lives of Victoria and Austin.

Challenged by the untimely accidental deaths of his only son, Leron, in 1976 and grandchildren, Amanda and Miles, in 1982, Austin drew support from his three daughters, Gloria (Mrs. Gail Hamilton), Bellefontaine, Ohio; Elyse (Mrs. Carl Henderson) Sequim, Wash.; Gaynell (Mrs. Tom Hutson), Ogden, Utah; and daughter-in-law, Deanne (Mrs. John Vanderford). Extending his wonderful life are 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
