Blanche Humpherys was born on Election Day, November 8, 1910 in Ogden, Weber County, Utah. She was the third child of Charles Edward Humpherys and Celestia Chipman Herbert in a family of eight children. Her parents, three brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Blanche left this life at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah due to congestive heart failure and emphysema on November 19, 1993.Interment will be in Shelley, Idaho (Hillcrest Cemetery).
Blanche obtained a teaching certificate from Ricks College in 1927, beginning a teaching career at 17 years of age. She obtained a BS degree in biology, history and psychology, and an MS in education from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She also completed course work at the University of Colorado at Fort Collins and did internship in three hospitals in Colorado and California for a certificate in occupational therapy.
She taught grade school, junior high, high school and special education students in both Idaho and Utah. She also did clerical work for the Department of Agriculture and for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in the Temple Records Department.
For the past several years, Blanche has lived in Salt Lake City where she was a member of Lowell Hicks' marimba orchestra, participated in several choral groups, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of genealogy organizations in the United States and England. She was an active member of the LDS Church having held positions in both stake and ward organizations in the Primary, Sunday School, MIA and genealogy. She has edited, written and published three books on history and genealogy.
She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Forrest (Agness) Strawn, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Carlyle (Cleo) Harmon, Provo, Utah; and Mrs. Thomas P. (Sylvia) Nelson, Aberdeen, Idaho; a niece, Mrs. Terry (Sandra) Paulos; and other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m. in the Russon Brothers Mortuary Chapel, 255 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, where friends may call Monday, 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, 9-9:45 a.m. prior to services.
