George Ira Wells, 89, passed away November 20, 1993 of causes incident to age in Salt Lake City at the home of a granddaughter.
Born September 12, 1904 in Desert Lake, Emory County, Utah, to Samuel and Viola Dodge Wells. Married Vivian Elvena Oviatt November 17, 1926 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died January 16, 1968. Married Ruth Peterson on January 3, 1973. She died October 6, 1991.In early life he was a farmer, rancher, coal miner, and owned and operated Ira Wells & Sons Housemovers, for 30 years. He was active in the LDS Church, and served a mission to the Northern Indian Mission in Minnesota with his wife, Vivian.
Survived by his sons and daughters: Delwin Samuel (Renee) Wells, Vard (Billie) Wells, Ruth (Bob) VanWagoner, Gwenda (Bob) Arnold; step children, Steve (Roseanne) Smith, Eldon (Myrna) Smith, Owen (Sondra) Smith, Connie Hayda; 26 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by wives; parents; 11 brothers and sisters, including his twin sister, Irene; son, Delbert; daughter, Marie Gerber; son-in-law, Austin Gerber; daughter-in-law, Norma Wells; and step daughter, Shirley Jacobsen. He will be missed by his family and his little friend and walking partner, Sam.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 12 noon at Forest Dale Ward, 739 East Ashton Ave. (2335 South). Friends may call Monday, 5-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and Tuesday at the church, 11-11:40 a.m. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
