A young Haitian woman holds her crying son Saturday while waiting for a card that will enable her to take him to a health clinic in Port-au-Prince. Other Haitians put aside differences to tackle another health issue: the estimated 22,000 tons of garbage that has accumulated since President Jean-Bertrand Aristide was ousted in a September 1991 military coup. More than 1 million people live in Port-au-Prince, which has no sewage system. They generate between 1,200 and 1,500 tons of garbage a day. The cleanup will last four days.
