Over the past three or four years, I have observed that lawyers who have wrongfully taken money from their clients get slapped on the wrist by the Utah Bar Association.
However, in the case of Jim Scarth, who appears to be guilty of drinking and helping a friend, the bar seems to want the destruction of the life of Jim and his family. The media have created much of this situation and have put tremendous pressure upon the attorney general and the Utah Bar Association. It is a sad day in America when the justice system is motivated by the press instead of their sworn oath to the Constitution.
Jim does not deny that he helped that friend and drank and drove. The courts, prosecutor or the bar have punished Jim for those offenses. Now others want a second and third bite. May I suggest that you leave the man in peace. You have tormented him enough.
