Salt Lake fire officials say a faulty electrical light fixture is to blame for starting a blaze that caused $15,000 damage to a Sugar House shoe store Sunday.

The fire broke out about 2:30 p.m. at The Walk Shop, 2020 S. 700 East. Numerous neighbors called the department after seeing heavy smoke coming from the building. Firefighters arrived and cut a hole in the roof to ventilate the building and extinguish the fire with hose lines, said Capt. Dan Andrus.Firefighters from Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake brought the fire under control within 20 minutes. No one was injured in the blaze, but more than 100 pairs of shoes were damaged in addition to the structure damage. Andrus said the store should reopen within a few days.
