Although the official start of winter is still four weeks away, Salt Lake City received its first snow of the season late Monday and early Tuesday. The storm left up to 3 inches in some valley locations and up to 24 inches at ski resorts. Tooele reported a 54-mph wind gust, while the wind reached 42 mph at Salt Lake International Airport, 40 mph in Holladay and 43 in Cedar City. Snow also fell across the northern United States on Tuesday, snarling traffic in the Northwest. Blustery arctic weather inching across the Pacific Northwest made highways slippery in much of Washington, and high wind limited ferry service on Puget Sound.
