BYU
- Football - Kalin Hall heads the list of Cougars receiving honors by the BYU coaching staff for their performance against Utah.
Hall, honored for the second time this season as the top offensive back, rushed for 80 yards and recorded one touchdown.
Cougar wide receiver Bryce Doman, with one touchdown and 46 yards, was named for the third time this season.
Others receiving honors include Mike Empey (offensive linemen), Shay Muirbrook (linebacker), Lenny Gomes (defensive linemen), Jack Damuni (defensive back), and Bobby Griffitts (special teams).
Empey was honored for the fourth time this season, while Muirbrook recorded ten tackles. Both honored for the second time this season were Gomes, who recorded 11 tackles and Damuni, with two interceptions, ten tackles, and one quarterback sack.
- Volleyball - BYU setter Charlene Johnson Fiaputa has been named the WAC player of the week. Fiaputu led the Cougars to WAC victories over Fresno State and San Diego State last week as BYU clinched its third WAC volleyball title in four seasons, including back-to-back undefeated league marks.
Fiaputa directed the Cougar attack with 94 assists, 18 digs, nine blocks and one ace.
Weber State
- Women's basketball - Weber State opens its 1993-94 season this weekend at the Colorado Coors Classic in Boulder, Colo. Weber State will play Colorado in the first round at 6 p.m. on Friday while West Virginia plays Washington at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the losers in the first round will play the Consolation Game at 6 p.m., while the winners of the first round advance to the Championship Game at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
The Wildcats are coming off a 4-22 season last year and a seventh place finish in the Big Sky Conference. Weber State returns four starters from last year's squad: 6-foot-2 senior post Wendy Talbot (12.9 ppg, 10.5 rpg); 6-0 senior post Valena Bleak (8.5 ppg, 6.3 rpg); 5-8 junior guard Nicky Wangsgard (7.9 ppg, 3.7 rpg); and 5-9 sophomore guard Valerie Sorenson (6.9 ppg, 3.7 rpg).
Other returnees inlcude 5-8 senior guard Jenifer Wood, 5-7 sophomore guard Rachelle Gardner and 6-0 sophomore post Ranae Friend. Along with five newcomers to the squad, Weber State activates last year's redshirt, 6-2 sophomore post Miki Graf.
