Stella Mae Rees Winters, 88, of Orem, Utah, died Sunday, November 21, 1993 in American Fork, Utah.

She was born September 5, 1905 to Mormon pioneers, Edmund and Hannah Chappell Rees, into a family that would include 12 children, all of whom preceded her in death. On May 9, 1929, she was married to Ira Tree, a union that resulted in four children; they were later divorced. In 1951, she married Phares (Fay) Winters, with whom she lived happily for four decades, residing in Lindon, Utah.Mae will be remembered for her work as Summit County Recorder, an abstracter, and as clerk for Pleasant Grove High School. She was an ardent member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in which she held many important positions. She was a born teacher, and enjoyed her assignments teaching various church classes. Her life was one of labor and friendship. Quilting and handwork were a routine part of her life, as was gardening. Beautiful roses and peonies were her hallmark.

She is survived by Stella L. (Stan) Welsh, Orem; Ira J. (Janice) Tree, Mesa, Ariz.; Norene (Keith) Turnbow, Idaho Falls, Idaho; David R. (Roberta) Tree, West Lafayette, Indiana; 26 grandchildren; and 72 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services under the direction of Walker Sanderson Funeral Home of Orem will be held Friday, November 26, at 12 noon, in the Orem Cascade 2nd Ward Chapel, 481 East Center Street, Orem. Friends may call Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the ward chapel. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
