George Edward Doty, age 58, died November 22, 1993.
He was born March 21, 1935 in Saint Anthony, Idaho, a son of Dr. Horace Wells and Adrienne Loosli Doty, Jr. He married Susan Carr Hooper, August 23, 1960 in Salt Lake LDS Temple.He graduated from South High School in 1953 and from Brigham Young University in 1960. He was noted as BYU's `number one fan'. On many occasions he traveled with the athletic teams. He received a masters degree from John F. Kennedy University in public administration in 1971.
He was employed by State Farm Insurance Company from 1961 to 1963 in Pocatello, Idaho. From 1963 until his retirement in 1990 he was employed by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), where he occupied many responsible leadership positions in the security field. He enjoyed giving lectures and firesides about the intelligence process and this unfairly maligned agency. He was a true patriot and loved his country. He served the CIA in California, Washington DC and Colorado. In 1977 he received a large cash award from President Jimmy Carter and he was the recipient of the Intelligence Commendation Medal.
At the time of his death, he was a consultant to the Department of Defense and to MSM Security, Inc. He was an active High Priest in the LDS Church, having served a Northern California Mission and occupying many important callings in the church. He had been a scoutmaster. He loved scouting and the boys whose lives he touched. He was a kind, happy man, who loved his family, especially his sweetheart, Susan.
George is survived by his wife, of Provo; three sons and three daughters, Sonya Marie Doty, Mrs. Walt (Bethany Lin Doty) Vigil, David Herschel Doty, Kevin Aaron Doty, all of Denver, Colorado; Preston Joseph Doty (wife, Kelly), Orem; Rachel Susan Doty, Provo; one precious granddaughter, Erin Ashley Vigil; mother, Adrienne Loosli Doty, Orem; one sister, Ann Marie Doty Godfrey, Orem.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 24, 1993 at 11 a.m. in the Grandview 9th Ward, 1555 North 1350 West, Provo. Friends may call at Berg Mortuary Provo, 185 East Center St., Tuesday evening 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Camp Williams Cemetery . Full military rites will be accorded by VFW District #4.
Family suggest in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
