Salt Lake Mayor Deedee Corradini has joined seven other mayors on a task force that will present a plan to combat violent urban crime to President Clinton next month.
She was appointed to the panel earlier this month at a meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Chicago. At that meeting, more than 50 mayors recommended steps to enact tougher laws, expand drug-control efforts, strengthen the criminal justice system and enact gun-control measures that go beyond those currently being considered by Congress.Corradini and the other mayors will meet with Clinton at the White House some time in December. Salt Lake Police Chief Ruben Ortega also will be part of the task force, along with chiefs from six other cities.
Mayors on the panel in addition to Corradini are Wellington Webb of Denver, Michael White of Cleveland, Frank Jordan of San Francisco, Patrick McManus of Lynn, Mass., Rita Mullins of Palatine, Ill., Paul Soglin of Madison, Wis., and Joseph Riley Jr. of Charleston, S.C.
