To enhance customer service during the holiday period, the Orem post office will expand Saturday hours from Nov. 27 through Dec. 18.

Hours on these Saturdays will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Postmaster Wally Adams said that the already expanded hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday will continue indefinitely. The post office is asking customers to separate holiday cards from other letters before putting them in the mail. That way they can be sorted more quickly. Most mail is sorted on automated equipment, but handwritten addresses, especially those written on dark-colored envelopes, are often difficult for the machines to read.

If customers separate holiday cards from the rest of the mail, the post office can immediately get them to the right sorting location, which saves time and provides faster service.

"The Orem post office will have a separate collection box in the lobby for the deposit of handwritten cards. If you mail from your home, just make sure your holiday cards are separate from your other mail," Adams said.

He also reminded mailers to mail early and to always use a complete address. The city, state and ZIP code should always go on the last line. It is not necessary to use commas or periods in the address as the envelope is more readable without them. And always include your return address.
