General Mills' new cereal "Sprinkle Spangles" is a corn based cereal covered with rainbow-colored sprinkles. The 13-ounce box retails for $2.93.

Don Russell (married, five children at home, ages 14-4): "General Mills' sweetened star-shaped corn puffs are for children. Perhaps it was the sight of the sprinkles, but we felt this cereal tasted like cupcakes. Needless to say, our kids didn't let this box last too long. It was gone in about 15 minutes. Although we were happy to try it, I don't think we'll stand in line for our next box."Edyth Jensen (married, three children and two grandchildren at home): "The grandchildren really had fun with these candy-sprinkled stars. They don't seem very sweet. As any cold cereal in its class, Sprinkle Spangles are quite expensive."

Nihla Lake (married, four children at home): "My married daughter, Laura Schmidt, said, `A cereal with sprinkles? Yuck! Even my 6-year-old, who loves sprinkles on everything, could hardly gag this one down. Sprinkle Spangles were sickeningly sweet. We thought we were eating a bowl full of sugar and could hardly taste the corn puffs. Never again will you find Sprinkle Spangles in our cereal cupboard!' "

Linda C. Tingey (single mother, four teenage boys at home): "Even my son, Ryan, who inhales sugary stuff thought these were TOO SWEET. We won't be buying them again."

Rich Firmage (married, three children, oldest 8 years old): "I turned the testing duties over to my two boys this time. My almost-9-year-old liked them and thought they were great. My picky 6-year-old didn't like them at all. So if my boys are any indication about this cereal, then half of the kids that eat these will like them and the half won't."

Bill Allred (single): "This is obviously a kid's cereal, so I tried it out on Dylan (age 6) and Julie (age 3). These two darlings did not care for Sprinkle Spangles. Believe it or not, they thought it was to sweet! When children think a cereal is too sweet, there's a problem. (I actually kind of liked it myself, though.)"

Conclusion: Nutritionists take heart! There are kids in the world today who find some things much too sweet! Sprinkle Spangles went down in sugary flames.
