Seven-year-old Angela Clark loves her school so much she donated 77 cents to help eliminate a $2.2 million budget gap.

Angela made the donation after Michael Marchese, director of the Williamsport (Pa.) Area School Board, said repeatedly that every penny counts when it comes to eliminating the district's looming deficit."I love my school," Angela wrote to Marchese. "I love my teachers and friends."

Marchese has received more than 60 letters concerning the school board's proposal to close Lewis Township Elementary School, where Angela is a second-grader. The board is expected to make a decision in May.

Marchese said Sunday he called Angela to thank her for the gesture and told her he would send the money back because he didn't want to take her small allowance.

"I feel the letter to me is worth more than the 77 cents," he said. "This showed me the child was willing to give up her money for the district."
