The University of Utah Alumni Association will honor five individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the school at the Founders Day celebration Wednesday.
The Distinguished Alumnus Award will be given to Eddie Frank Brown, Graduate School of Social Work; Barbara Anderson Lewis, Graduate School of Education; Rob Wellington Quigley, Graduate School of Architecture; and C. Floyd "Tally" Stevens, College of Health. Elizabeth R. Hayes, professor emerita of modern dance, will receive the Honorary Alumnus Award.The annual event commemorates the U.'s founding on Feb. 28, 1850. The five will be honored at a 6:30 p.m. reception, banquet and awards ceremony. The cost is $15 per person. For reservations, call the Alumni Association at 581-6995.
Brown is the assistant secretary for Indian Affairs at the U.S. Department of Interior. Lewis, a Jackson Elementary School teacher and author, received the Children's Book of Distinction Award for "The Kids Guide to Social Action."
Quigley is the founding principal of his own architectural firm in San Diego, where his work focuses on community participation in design and low-cost urban housing.
Stevens, retired president and co-founder of Stevens Brown Sports Co., was vice president of the U. Crimson Club and a U. Alumni Association board member.
Hayes is the founder of the U. modern dance department. She was honored in 1989 by the having the theater in the Alice Sheets Marriott Center for Dance named for her and Willam Christensen, founder of the U. ballet department.
