Three phony $20 bills were spotted in Salt Lake City Monday, and police say others are being circulated.
The counterfeit bills were passed at two motels in the North Redwood area and at a Glendale market. The serial numbers on all three bills is the same - L39847907D."We just want to give the public some warning that there are some phony ones out there," said Salt Lake Police Lt. Marty Vuyk. "It's details in things like shading and the picture on the bill itself" that indicate the money is counterfeit, he said.
The Secret Service has reported seeing a "flurry of counterfeit notes" and is involved in the investigation, said Dennis Crandall, agent in charge in Salt Lake City.
