IBM announced it is reducing prices on some of its personal computers and monitors by up to 20 percent in response to similar cuts by a competitor.
Compaq Computer Corp. on Monday announced an array of price cuts that applied to desktop and notebook computers and printers.IBM's price cuts apply to its Personal System-ValuePoint and Personal System-2 models and monitors.
IBM said it would quickly lower prices and offer more features with its computers to match the competition. Part of IBM's problems in its PC business have been attributed to low-price alternatives.
