Question: This is the first letter I'm writing to you. I came to the United States three years ago from Vietnam. Now I'm studying (in high school).

I think if girls are fighting over boys, I would think it's bad because girls are not supposed to fight over boys. I also think if girls are fighting over boys, they are not going to win anyway. Besides, I do not want to fight over girls because I usually respect girls. The reason girls are fighting over boys is because they are jealous of the boys. The jealousy occurs when the boys are going out with other girls. Another reason girls fight over boys is because they don't want the boys to think they are weak. P.S. How about you? What do you think if girls are fighting over boys???- Thanh

Pat and David: It makes no sense to us.

Carmen, 15: Personally, I think it is very stupid for girls to fight over a guy when there are thousands in the world to choose from. The girls don't know what's going to happen after the fight because the guy has to choose one, so what's going to happen to the other girl? And what are they going to get out of fighting? Nothing except for bruises!

(Another) Carmen: I personally don't have anything against fighting for a guy because if it was me, I would fight for my sweetheart. But that is only if there is a good reason. Now, if it was his fault, then I will just drop the whole thing and keep on living my life because there are more fish in the sea. But sometimes there is just one special fish in that sea that you would do anything for and, yes, that includes fighting.

Jose, 16: I heard about the girls fighting over guys, and I personally think it's very stupid. If the guy likes one of the girls, then he should tell her.

Monica, 15: I think girls fighting over a guy is very dumb. If the guy really loves her like he said, she shouldn't have anything to worry about, because if a girl was trying to flirt with him, he'd tell her he has a lady already and that he loves her very much. The reason I think this is because that's what love's all about - trust and honesty.

Nilsa, 15: I think fighting for a guy is a stupid thing to do. I don't think girls should fight over a guy because they're putting themselves down by doing that. What the guy is going to do is be laughing at them. That's not the only guy in this world. They can find better guys.

Pat and David: Amen.

What's news from Maggie in Oak Park, Ill.: Last summer I attended a meeting of Rainbow Warriors International, a group of people in grades 9-12 (who) gathered in hopes of making the world a better place for everyone and having fun doing so.

We celebrated our progress toward a restored Earth and mourned our losses. We found out where we'd been so we could plot a course toward where we wanted to go. We looked at the changes we needed to make and had fun. We resolved to create changes that would strengthen our communities while decreasing environmental degradation and waste of resources. We knew that whatever we did that weekend, whatever course we would set, we would leave with the potential to affect countless others around the world. "It takes only one person and one idea and practice and performance to change the world." We had a chance to be that person.

It was a weekend that most of us will remember, where we learned a little about ourselves as well as the environment.

Pat and David: After receiving this letter, we contacted Rainbow Warriors International. Their director asked us to let you know that Rainbow Warriors International for Responsible Student Environmental Action (RWI) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that is not affiliated with any other organization.
