Tauno Ernest Seeronen passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 1993 in Salt Lake City of complications from pneumonia after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on December 6, 1920 at Winter Quarters, Carbon County, Utah, to John Robert and Hilda Tiela Seeronen of Finland. He married Margaret Patricia Caputo at St. Patrick's Church in Salt Lake City on April 23, 1947.Mr. Seeronen graduated from North Emery High School and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He saw action in the Aleutians, Eastern Mandates, Leyte, Philippines, and Ryukyus Islands. His citations include the Bronze Star and Four Overseas Service Medals.
After his discharge from the service he attended the University of Utah, and was employed by the Lang Company which was later sold to the Union Tank Car Co. In 1962, he and other associates purchased many of the local assets of the latter company, and formed the Truck Equipment Sales Company, TESCO. The company then erected one of the finest truck equipment facilities in the intermountain area at 1103 South 300 West, for the manufacture and distribution of truck mounted equipment. Later, the company expanded its operations to Balckfoot and Boise, Idaho. Mr. Seeronen was an officer and later served as president and chairman of the board of TESCO until 1974. He retired from the truck equipment industry in 1985. He was an avid sportsman as well as a member of the Hidden Valley Country Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret; his two sons, John Robert Seeronen, Portland, Oregon; and Mark Allen Seeronen, Murray; four grandchildren, Courtney, Carrie, Shea and Sean; his brother, Nelo of Carbondale, Colo.; and sister, Eva Sampi of Price. He was predeceased by his brothers, Wilhoe, George, Anio, and Jack; and sister, Jean Melrose.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 12, 1993, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane, Holladay. A vigil service will be held Thursday, 8 p.m. at the Neil O'Donnell & Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may call Thursday, 7-8 p.m. Committal services, Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 4th Ave and T Street.
