Texas-El Paso outscored Wyoming 20-2 in the last 7:54 to come from behind and advance to the Western Athletic Conference women's semifinals against Brigham Young with a 68-55 win over Wyoming.
The other semifinal contest Friday will pit Utah against San Diego State. Utah beat Colorado State 62-48 in the opening round Wednesday, while San Diego State downed Fresno State 62-38.The Miners from El Paso were led by Monica Ramirez with 21 points, including 17 in the first half.
Wyoming was led by Anna Knight with 15 points, 13 of them coming in the first half as the Cowgirls took a 35-31 lead at the break.
Wyoming led 53-48 with 7:54 remaining, but after a Miners timeout, UTEP outscored Wyoming 20-2 the rest of the way. The Rams were led by Debbie Carson, with 13 points.
San Diego St. 62, Fresno St. 38
Falisha Wright scored 17 of her 19 points in the first half to lead San Diego State to a victory over Fresno State.
The Aztecs never trailed in the game and a shot by Wright with 44 seconds left in the first half gave SDSU a 21-point margin.
Fresno State fought back to within 16 at 48-32 with 10 minutes left, but San Diego State then widened its lead to as many as 26 with three minutes to play. For Fresno State, Suzanne Zahasky, Corry Carter and Tammie Beckley each had eight.
