A contract for an Olympic speed-skating oval has yet to be signed with the Oquirrh Park Fitness Center in Kearns, members of the Utah Sports Authority were told Wednesday.
A special meeting has been scheduled for March 18 to either sign the contract or consider alternative sites for the $3.7 million project built with taxpayer funds. The community fitness center was selected for the project only after sites on Guardsman Way near the University of Utah and across the street from Pioneer Park in downtown Salt Lake City were rejected.
David Howick, head of the fitness center, said he is confident an agreement can be reached in time for next week's meeting.
The speed-skating oval will be used for world-class competition as well as for community activities.
