Citing Utah State University's "outstanding program of study in conservation," the Mutual of Omaha's Wildlife Heritage Trust has established a conservation scholarship at USU.

"The trust is proud to continue Marlin's (the late Marlin Perkins) conservation education legacy through these scholarships so that future generations will benefit," said Jim Fowler, executive director for the trust."Wild Kingdom," a TV network program sponsored by Mutual of Omaha, features exploration of the natural world. Hosts have included Marlin Perkins, Jim Fowler and Peter Gros. The company's Wildlife Heritage Trust works to preserve natural resources and increase public awareness and appreciation of nature.

USU is among 20 schools nationwide to participate in the Marlin Perkins Scholarship Program. Each spring, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior at USU studying in a field related to conservation.

In addition to high academic achievement, the recipient must have shown an interest in conservation through extracurricular activities or volunteer work.
