SHARE DIXIE LEAVITT NAMED DIRECTOR OF LDS CENTER

Former state Sen. Dixie Leavitt, the father of Gov. Mike Leavitt, has been named director of the St. George LDS Temple Visitors Center.

Leavitt, 63, is a retired insurance company executive who retired from the Senate after serving in the Utah Legislature for nearly two decades.He has served as president of the England Leeds Mission, a church high councilor and bishop's counselor. He and his wife, Phyllis, live in nearby Cedar City.

The appointment was announced Friday by the church's ruling First Presidency.
