J. Howard Van Boerum, president and chief executive officer of Van Boerum & Frank Associates Inc., 220 S. 200 East, a consulting engineering firm, has been named engineer of the year by the Utah Engineers Council.

Nominees are selected and judged on academic background, pro-fes-sional achievements and activities, service to the engineering community, civic involvement and professional licensure.A registered professional engineer for more than 25 years, van Boerum heads a 25-employee firm, which has been involved in such projects as the Primary Children's Medical Center, remodeling of the Hotel Utah and the Salt Palace Convention Center renovation and expansion.

He currently is involved in the new bobsled/luge track at the Winter Sports Park at Bear Hollow, a joint venture with Eckhoff, Watson and Preator Engineering.

Van Boerum recently completed a two-year term as vice president of the American Consulting Engineers Council and has held several positions in the Utah Engineers Council, including president.
