Rita Rudner says she hopes there will be a time when she won't be considered a female stand-up comic, but just plain funny.
Rudner, who recently was named Stand-up Comic of the Year by the American Comedy Awards, said she used to believe women comics were forced to do loud, brash routines, but now "there's a wide variety of female comedians doing as wide a range of material as men. It won't be long before we won't be talking about being a female stand-up comic. It'll just be me being funny. I hope."Rudner, who will appear March 19 at the Lowell, Mass., Memorial Auditorium, told The Boston Globe that while she likes doing stand-up, she also enjoys being a sit-down screenwriter. She recently co-wrote the screenplay to the movie, "Peter's Friends."
