Sydna Whiting Strong, 53, of Springville, died Wednesday, March 10, 1993 at her home of cancer.

She was born February 22, 1940 in Payson, to William Vern and Patricia Lodge Whiting. She married Don Robert Strong, September 28, 1962 in the Manti LDS Temple.Sydna graduated from Springville High School and received a BS degree in Home Economics from Brigham Young University.

She loved to sew and had designed and made costumes for numerous community theatre events, Opera West and Utah Valley Community Theatre. She also sewed many wedding and prom dresses for friends, donating all of her time.

Sydna was active in Scouting and had attended Woodbadge. She was Hobble Creek District Round Table Chairman; on the Utah National Parks Scout Council Committee; and received the Silver Beaver Award in 1987. She has served as chairman of the Springville Art Ball; President of the Hafen-Dallen Guild at the Art Museum; on the Art Queen committee; worked on the Festival of Trees; and had been a member of the utah Valley Symphony Guild.

She worked in the Primary for many years in the LDS Church serving as Primary president, teacher, Cub Scout leader. She had also taught in the Relief Society and served as a visiting teacher. At the time of her death, she was the Laurel Advisor.

She had worked at Barbizon and Bernina in Provo, where she was employed at the time of her death. She taught sewing classes at Bernina; at the Intermountain Sewing Conference; and for the Community Education program. She had also spent many hours volunteering at various schools.

Sydna is survived by her husband, Don, of Springville; two sons and three daughters, Layton Robert Strong, of Salt Lake City; Stacy Strong; Steven Whiting Strong; Karen Strong; and Aileen Strong, all of Springville; her mother, Patricia Whiting, of Springville; two brothers and one sister, David L. Whiting and Wendell Whiting, of Salt Lake City; Patricia Whiting Walter, of Phoenix, Arizona.

Funeral will be Saturday, March 13, 1993 at 12 noon in the Springville LDS Stake Center, 600 East 245 South, Springville. Friends may call at the Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. or Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Boy Scouts of America.
