The Utah AIDS Foundation has scheduled its second annual "Academy of Friends Awards" night and celebration that will, once again, coincide with the Academy Awards presentations.

The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 29, at the Bay Social club, 404 S. West Temple, where participants will watch the live broadcast of the Oscar awards on large-screen television sets while sampling food provided by the employees of Cafe Pierpont, Baci Trattoria, China Star Express, Market Street Broiler, Market Street Grill, the New Yorker Club and Grounds for Coffee. While waiting to see if Clint Eastwood really is the "best director of the year," folks at the AIDS Foundation's event will witness the presentation of several local awards for individuals and organizations that are considered "the stars of our community who have made a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS."

The UAF's 1993 honorees are: Gary Billingsley, recipient of the Michael L. Elliot Courage Award; the Salt Lake Episcopal Diocese for "best divine intervention"; employees and owners of the Sun Club for "most committed support"; Babs DeLay, Darlene Dipo and the "Sub for Santa" program for "most original support"; Edie Sidle of the Utah Department of Health, "bureaucrat of the year"; American Society of Interior Designers, Utah Chapter, "best set and stage design"; the Delta Airlines employees' Fair Share project, "benefactors of the year"; the Space Agency, "corporation of the year," and Holy Cross Hospital, for "best collaborative effort, continuity of care."

In addition to the buffet and awards, there will be dancing and a cash bar. Invitations to the affair call for "festive dress" apparel.
