The Kiwanis Book Exchange at the Capitol rotunda will be collecting books for school libraries on Saturday, March 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited to bring three or more books they have read and loved and exchange them for a book they would love to read. Hundreds of books will be available.

School librarians will screen incoming books suitable for their shelves, and surplus books will be available to those making exchanges or for sale. The books may be old or new, but they should not be school texts or promotional or self-published books. The books should be in good condition, clean and generally unmarked.Last year more than 1,000 books were added to the Washington Elementary School library, and hundreds of patrons went home with a new book to read. However, some school libraries have fewer than one work of fiction per child.

Everyone is invited to read more and then share their books, said Skip Roberts, president of the Capitol Hill Kiwanis Club. This is an opportunity to serve young people, he said. One student, Cathy Petersen, hit the mark with the slogan, "Reading gives wings to the mind and flight to the imagination." The book exchange is sponsored by the West High School Key Club and the Capitol Hills Kiwanis Club. Cash donations may be made to Kiwanis Book Fund, Key Bank, 50 South Main, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84130-0815.
