- Women's gymnastics - Cougar Gymnasts Score High Behind a school-record-shattering 49.15 performance on beam, BYU's women's team overcame three falls on bars to score a season-high 193.60 and win a dual meet with Utah State (189.65) Friday night in Provo.
The 49.15 is the highest event score ever for a BYU team (the previous high was 49.00, scored last year on floor). The high beam score was paced by another school record, a 9.95 by freshman Juliet Bangerter.
- Track and field - BYU's Anu Kaljurand, the NCAA defending heptathlon champion, added another All-America award to the three she already owns by placing fourth in the long jump at the NCAA indoor championships Friday night. Kaljurand, sailed 20 feet 31/2, five inches shorter than her qualifying mark, but good enough to finish among the top eight jumpers.
- Tennis - Playing without standout freshman Jennifer Saret in the singles lineup, BYU's women's tennis team had its victory string cut 6-3 by WAC rival San Diego State Friday. The Cougars are now 8-1 on the season and the WAC defending champion Aztecs improved to 6-5.
- Baseball - Nevada broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and went on to defeat BYU 4-3 in a non-conference baseball game Friday afternoon. Cougar starter Travis Dowdell allowed the Wolf Pack only five hits, but was plagued by four walks and two errors. He was charged with the loss and his record is now 1-3 for the season.
Utah State
- Track and field - Utah State University's Alisa Nicodemus earned All-American honors at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships being held in Indianapolis, Ind with her fourth place finish in the 5,000 meters on Friday.
Nicodemus, who also earned All-American honors during the cross country season, ran a time of 16:00.81 to break her school record by 25 seconds. Her day didn't stop there as she also earned a spot in the finals of the mile -finishing second in her heat with a time of 4:47.04. That time is also a new school record.
