Cosmopolitan magazine editor Helen Gurley Brown explains that no matter how many face-lifts one has or how much estrogen one takes, there's no way one can look 19 when one is really, say, 71.

That's the gist of what she told a television audience while in Boston this week to promote her latest book. Brown said she came to that realization one day while riding a bus in Manhattan when an 18-year-old woman offered Brown her seat.Brown said she was filled with "rage, sorrow and disgust" that she had been "mistaken" for an old lady and immediately headed to see her therapist.

The therapist, Brown said, suggested she write about it, and the result was her new book, "The Late Show, A Semiwild Survival Plan for Women Over Age 50."
