Our beloved father, grandfather (opa) and friend, Henry Bakker, age 87, passed away March 23, 1993, in Sandy.
Henry was born March 11, 1906, in Alten-Essen Germany, the son of Harm and Sibylla H. J. Matten Bakker. He married Cornelia Heitman, April 3, 1929 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death, February 1, 1991. Came to Salt Lake in 1929. Returned to Holland in 1932 where he started a cafeteria business. Helped many people during WWII. In 1947 he and his family returned to America where he started a bakery business. Served an LDS mission to Edingburgh, Scotland with his wife and youngest daughter from 1968 to 1970.He was a hard worker and an example to all. This characteristic carried over to all his children. We love you dad and opa and we'll miss you, until we meet again.
Survivors include three sons and four daughters, Frank (wife, Jacklyn), Robert H. (wife, Maxine), Ernest (wife, Kathy), Marie (husband, Peter) Van de Merwe, S. H. Joanne (husband, Brent) Hansen, Connie (husband, Paul) Daubenschmidt, Henrietta Baker; 39 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 27, 1993, 11 a.m., at the Holbrook Funeral Chapel, 3251 South 2300 East, where friends may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday for one hour prior to services. Interment: Mt View Memorial Estates. Funeral Directors:
