A suicidal West Jordan man was taken into custody peacefully after holding police and family at bay for 3 1/2 hours Friday afternoon, according to West Jordan police.

"At 3 p.m., we received a call on a domestic dispute," Capt. Randy Johnson said. "The family said they found a suicide note written by the distraught individual and saw him with a gun."Johnson said they arrived at the 20-year-old man's house near 7500 S. 1500 West, and sealed off the area.

"We were able to establish communication with the individual and entered his home at 6:45 p.m." he said. "Apparently, he had taken an overdose of his prescription medication."

Johnson said the man was transported to Jordan Valley Hospital for observation. There were no reported injuries.
