DEATH: FRANKLIN RICHARDS SMITH JR.

Franklin Richards Smith Jr., passed away at home, April 16, 1993, of cancer.

Born June 30, 1914 in Salt Lake City, to Franklin R. Smith and Ella Elise Olsen. Grandson of Joseph F. Smith, 6th President of the LDS Church; great-grandson of Patriarch Hyrum Smith.An active member of the LDS Church, he held numerous church callings and worked in the Jordan River Temple. Retired from the US Air Force, was an engineer for Boeing Aircraft Corp and a custodian for the LDS Church.

Married on March 10, 1956 to Barbara A. Ord, who survives him. Also survived by his children, Dixie G. Burrows and her husband, Gene; Marianne Williams; Thomas F. Williams and his wife, Diana; Judy L. Stafford and her husband, Jay; Lauri E. Wiseman and her husband, Jerry; F. Richards (Rick) Smith III and his wife, Elizabeth; David R. Smith and his wife, Jennifer; foster son, Sergio J. Tapia and his wife, Dora; 32 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and we anticipate that Dad will escort his 5th great-grandchild into mortality in June. Also survived by his brothers, Chester, Robert and Daryl Smith; by his sister, Janet Nilson; and his stepmother, Naoma H. Smith. Preceded in death by his first wife, Alta G. Grant, who he married in 1933 and who died in 1941.

Dad's humor, wisdom, love and powerful testimony, all of which he continued to express even during the most difficult periods of his illness and until the very day of his death, will sustain us for the rest of our lives.

Funeral service will be held Tues., April 20, 1993, 12 noon, in the Jordan Meadows Ward, 3935 South 1500 West, West Valley City (enter from 1300 West). Friends may call Mon., 6 to 8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 So. 200 east, Salt Lake City and Tues., 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. at the ward. Interment: Bountiful City Cemetery.
