The Skyline High soccer team took another half-game step toward a possible Region 2 championship Thursday with a 3-1 victory over Alta.

The Eagles improved to 8-3 in the region with the victory, while the Hawks dropped to 8-4. Olympus, which had a bye Thursday, leads the league at 8-2, one-half game ahead of Skyline. Should Oly and Skyline tie for the league title, the Eagles would get the top seed from the region in the state championships because they beat the Titans in both head-to-head meetings.Carlos Martinez and Trae Loos scored to give the Eagles a 2-0 halftime lead over the Hawks on Thursday. In the second half Jud Soderberg scored to give Skyline a 3-0 lead. Alta's lone goal was netted by Jared Heiner late in the game.

Region 2

Brighton 7, Highland 0

At Brighton, the Bengals had little trouble downing the Rams. Justin Labrum scored a pair of goals and Jared Hansen, a fullback, netted his first goal of the season in leading Brighton to a 4-0 halftime advantage. The Bengals coasted from there. Brighton is now 7-4 in the region with a makeup game against region-leading Olympus set for Monday.

Region 4

Timpview 3, Orem 1

At Orem, the Thunderbirds improved to 9-0 in the region to remain the only 4A team to be unbeaten in league play. Kimball Christianson scored two goals and Brandon Heath scored one and assisted another to lead Timpview.

Region 7

Wasatch 3, Lehi 0

At Wasatch, the Wasps pulled an upset in the rain and snow of Heber City by downing the previously unbeaten Pioneers. Jonathon Burton, Josh Wilde and Scott Whitaker scored the Wasatch goals, while Kasey Jarvis earned the shutout in the goal.

Morgan 5, Carbon 3

At Morgan, the Trojans and Dinos played to a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation. Morgan's Charlie Crompton scored a go-ahead goal and Kendall Gross added an insurance goal to give the Trojans their sixth region win (6-3). Aaron Turner scored two goals during regulation play, while Kenneth Tilby scored one for Morgan.
