A woman waiting for a bus was kidnapped, then beaten and robbed Thursday by three men who grabbed her and threw her into their car.
Salt Lake County sheriff's officials say they're "anxious" to locate the men or the vehicle they were driving. The Taylorsville woman, 57, was waiting at a bus stop near 5300 South and 1300 West about 4 p.m. Thursday when a sedan with three men inside pulled up next to her.
"One got out, grabbed her and pushed her (inside) down to the floor board in the back," said deputy sheriff Jim Potter. Although the woman never saw a knife, she said she felt one put to her back and said the men "threatened to cut her guts out if she looked at them."
As the men drove her around, they yelled demands for money and valuables as they kept her face to the floor of the car. The woman apparently had no money, but the suspects stole her wedding ring, a gold necklace chain and her watch, Potter said. They also threatened to cut her finger off if they couldn't get the ring off her finger.
The men did not try to sexually assault her. "The motive was clearly robbery. They wanted money," Potter said.
The suspects, described as between 18 and 20 years old and intoxicated, also hit the woman on the head with a beer can. After about an hour, they took her back near the area where they had kidnapped her.
The woman ran home and notified her husband, who called the sheriff's office. Paramedics treated the woman for cuts on her finger and contusions to her head. She then went to a hospital for X-rays.
The vehicle is described as an older model, green, four-door, low-riding sedan. Anyone who may have seen anything is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 535-5441.
