Elma Smith Richards, 77, died after an extended illness at her home June 9, 1993.

She was born December 11, 1915 in Fillmore, Utah to John Cheek and Jetta Jane Bennett Smith. She married Philip L. Richards August 30, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Elma graduated from the University of Utah in 1939 and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was an active member of the LDS Church, and served for many years in the Primary and Relief Society organizations. She was active in the Sugar House Rotary Anne's, PTA and in all of her children's activities.

Her delightful sense of humor and cheery attitude brought joy and happiness to all in her presence. She chose to stay at home where she served and loved her family, always entertaining and feeding those who visited her home. She cared for her mother-in-law for ten years.

She will be remembered by her sacrifice, her unconditional love and especially her exuberant personality.

She is survived by her husband, Phil, and seven children, Philip (Cathy), Las Vegas, Nevada; Susan (Don) Wright and John (Vicki), Sandy; Lois (Bob) Powell, Boise, Idaho; Margret (Stephen) Lloyd, Salt Lake City; Mary (Mike) Fitch, Farmington; Peter (Alecia), Salt Lake City; sister, Beth (Vern) Rasmussen; 36 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Olene Broadhead.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 12 at 1 p.m. in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 So. Highland Drive, where friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:45-12:45 p.m. prior to services.

Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
