Newly graduated Protestant ministers are having a hard time finding gainful employment.
Divinity school graduates, numbering about 13,000 in the United States and Canada in 1992, are finding some churches are cutting back because of the recession.Unlike the Roman Catholic Church, which is suffering a priest shortage and where bishops assign clergy to parishes, many Protestant denominations hire ministers at the local congregation level.
Religious leaders say the Northeast, which was especially hard hit by the recession, is probably the worst place to find a job.
