The Army has deactivated 477 Reserve units, including three in Utah.

The local units belong to the 96th U.S. Army Reserve Command and affect 421 reservists in Salt Lake City and Ogden. The units are the 162nd Support Group, 536th Signal Co. and 866th Supply Co."The downsizing of the military and today's budget realities make reductions necessary," Reserve officials said. "As the active Army draws down its structure, fewer combat support and combat service support units in the Reserves are required."

However, officials also announced activation of the 426th Medical Brigade in Salt Lake City with 85 members.
