A Provo man and Park City woman were overall Utah Summer Games triathlete winners, while a Cache Valley team finished the 62-mile course in record time.

Gary Jolley, 36, logged a record time in his age category of 3:37:09, trimming nearly eight minutes off the 1992 record for men 35-39.Jeannie Rettos, 32, became the first woman to finish the Summer Games triathalon course in under four hours.

The winning three-person team set a new benchmark with a time of 3:13:41. The Cache Valley team consisted of Owen Mortensen, Dan Cooper and Bob Durtschi and took seven minutes off the previous team record.

Jolley, who had participated in the event before, said his familiarity with the course gave him an advantage.

"It's planning your race out so you don't kill yourself the first half, because it's a long race. It takes a lot out of you," he said.

A firefighter and paramedic for Provo City, Jolley said he is preparing for the World Police and Fire Games in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he has won a medal before.

Rettos, a Park City hairstylist and vocalist for the band, "Jeannie and the Hitmen," was running her fourth triathalon.

"I figured the course would take about four hours, so I'm happy I'm under four," she said. Her time of 3:58:26 was a full 10 minutes faster than the mark set last year.
