Some goaltenders go from hero to goat. Glenn Healy went from hero to Duck.
Healy, a spectacular playoff performer for the New York Islanders, finds himself today the property of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. At least until the Ducks figure out what to do with their roster. After picking up 24 players in Thursday's expansion draft along with the Florida Panthers, some changes are inevitable. They could come today following the secondary expansion draft during which the Tampa Bay Lightning, Ottawa Senators and San Jose Sharks will have the option of picking up players left unprotected by the Ducks and Panthers.
One player who won't be available to the other expansion teams is the Panthers' John Vanbiesbrouck, who was the No. 1 overall pick on Thursday.
"We're protecting Vanbiesbrouck," Panthers general manager Bobby Clarke said. "We didn't acquire him to trade him. We acquired him to play for us."
Along with Vanbiesbrouck, the Panthers also picked up Mark Fitzpatrick from Quebec and Daren Puppa from Toronto.
