The body of a 33-year-old artist has been found in a four-wheel-drive vehicle in a remote Boulder Mountain area.

The vehicle was registered to Jed Sargent, and deputies found a handwritten identification confirming the body was Sargent's.The body was found by Wayne County deputy Kendall Williams, who was on the mountain in Garfield County to drop off food to some hikers. He happened upon a 1987 vehicle with the hood up and found a man's body in the back seat.

Garfield County Sheriff's Deputy Celeste Bernards said the body bore no outward signs of violence or self-inflicted wounds.

Officers recovered camping gear but no food, water, money or weapons from the vehicle, found at Tantalus Flat, less than one-quarter mile from a spring.

Sargent's body was taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Salt Lake City.

The man's parents, of Brigham City, said they had not heard from their son since March 31. He at times had suffered from mental illness, they said.
