What ever happened to government by the people and government of the people? Nowadays all we hear is government for the people whether we have voted for it or not.
Didn't we just tell UTA and its busybodies that we, the people, did not want to be taxed for the light-rail system? That means state or federal tax. When they say they will loose federal grants, they make it sound as though it comes from some rich uncle instead of taxpayers' gas taxes.Bringing a bunch of empty rail cars into downtown Salt Lake City isn't going to get the shoppers out of the valley malls.
They spent so much time digging up the streets, planting trees and flowers that we found we would rather go to a mall - even two of them to shop.
And now they'll dig the streets again - probably have to remove a tree or two and hope no one trips on the rails once they are in place.
Few people I know would drive to a train stop for a ride to city center and walk to the various stores and repeat the process to get home.
Even if the Democratic administration dumps a hefty gas tax on us, it will still be cheaper and faster to drive straight to the mall nearest our home and do our shopping. When the commuter buses are filling up, then it would make sense. I still see too many empty ones.
Doesn't someone have the power to stop the UTA from spending more of our money?
