After months of delay, WordPerfect Corp. announced it is shipping Office 4.0 for Windows, Dos and Macintosh.

The updated version of the networked product combines electronic mail, personal calendaring and group scheduling in a single application. It also includes rules-based message management, work-flow automation, ordered distribution, task management, group calendaring, central and distributed administration tools and directory synchronization."It's a key shipment for them because that is the core of the technology which will diversify their applications base," said T.C. Doyle, a senior editor with Computer Reseller News.

WordPerfect Office 4.0 is the first work-group application to offer users a messaging solution that encompasses time management, task management and work-flow computing, according to David Clare, senior director of marketing.

WordPerfect Office allows users to attach files and documents to electronic mail messages, scheduled appointments and scheduled tasks. Recipients of any type of message simply double click on an attached file to retrieve the file.

The DOS and OS/2 administration and server pack, which allows an unlimited number of users to access the product over a network, is $295. Smaller businesses with up to 15 users can buy a client pack for DOS, Windows and Macintosh for $495.

The administration and server upgrade package is $105. Client package upgrades are $179. WordPerfect Corp. also offers a discount price for customers who trade in competitors' products.
