The Duchesne County Cattlemen's Association honored five area residents, including two husband and wife teams recently during its annual business meeting in Roosevelt.
The Duchesne County 1992 Cattleman of the Year Award went to Gary and Rosalee Jessen of Altonah. The Jessens received a plaque for "their efforts in the cattle industry in the Uintah Basin." They began their career in the cattle business 35 years ago. Their Benchmark Angus Ranch is well-known for the quality of cattle it produces, including the Grand Champion Angus Heifer over all breeds at the California State Fair. The Jessens sponsor the Special Showmanship Award at the Duchesne County Fair each year and work with their eight grandchildren who show and own their own Angus cattle.Another husband and wife team, Ron and Sharlene Goodrich, Bluebell, jointly received the organization's Service Award for 1992.
The Goodriches, owners of the Country Flair store in Altamont, and former owners of the Bluebell Store, were praised for the quality of service provided by their business.
Association President Tracy Killian, also honored the family of the late Zane Christensen, Talmage, with a posthumous award for their father's work in the cattle industry. Christensen, a respected cattle buyer and rancher, died last year.
