More than 250 young musicians will be on the Utah State University campus this week for USU's annual Summer Music Clinic July 12-17.
Junior and senior high band, orchestra and piano students will participate in workshops designed for them and a number of concerts will be open to the public, many without charge.The clinic's opening concert will be provided Monday by the USU Alumni Band at 7 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall of the Chase Fine Arts Center. On Tuesday at 11:40 a.m. the Lightwood Duo - guitarist Mike Christiansen and clarinetist Eric Nelson - will perform in the Fine Arts Center Courtyard, and at 8 that evening pianist Eugene Watanabe will present a solo recital in the Kent Concert Hall. Admission is $3 at the door.
The Logan Canyon Winds, composed of USU faculty members, will perform Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall. Tickets are $3. Three events are scheduled Friday, the first featuring the Logan-based Bridgerland Brass in an 11:40 a.m. courtyard concert. SMC piano students perform at 6 p.m. in the Morgan Theatre of the Chase Fine Arts Center and the SMC Jazz Bands perform at 7:30 p.m. in the courtyard.
The Grand Finale Concert will take place Saturday, with groups from the clinic performing at 1 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall.
